By visiting people in their homes, the Society of St Vincent de Paul aims to help men, women and families to break their cycle of poverty and disadvantage. Regular visiting with attention to building relationships based on trust and friendship are what gives the SSVP its unique character.

Visits are made to individuals and families, to the sick at home or in hospitals and hospices, to residential homes and to offender institutes. Loneliness, especially among the elderly is growing, so members spend a lot of time visiting housebound people to prevent them from feeling isolated. Many appreciate a friendly face and enjoy a chat over a cup of tea, knowing that someone cares.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul operates a food bank located at the St Joseph's Church in Bowmanville. We offer nutritious packages, or "Hampers" consisting of non-perishable items, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables when available. You can visit the food bank every 30 days and the amount of food that you receive will scale with the size of your family. To join our food hamper program we do require Proof of Address, Proof of Income and ID for each member in your family.
